Former Director of Telangana Jail Department appointed consultant to Punjab Government

Hyderabad: The Punjab government has appointed VK Singh, a senior IPS officer and former director of Telangana Police Academy, as an advisor to the Punjab government. VK Singh had remained the Director-General of Telangana Jail Department for a long time. He also made many changes in the prison system during his tenure.

He had also conducted a special campaign mainly for beggars in Hyderabad and also set up a rehabilitation centre in the jail premises for them. Apart from this, senior IPS officers have always been in discussions about the rhetoric. He had applied for voluntary retirement two months ago and due to this, he was transferred from the post of Director of Telangana Police Academy.

Now in this sequence, the Punjab government held a review meeting of the Chief Minister on 20 February. In this meeting, he had decided to appoint VK Singh and Indian Institute of Management (Rohtak) director Dheeraj Sharma as advisors in connection with the modernization and security of the Jail Department of Punjab. Now considering the same as the base, the Additional Chief Secretary (Prisons Department) of the Punjab Government, R. Venkataratnam has appointed both the officers as advisors of the Prisons Department for the Punjab Government.
