Sensex keeps up 50,000 Levels, Nifty corsses 14,845

Key benchmark Indices moved at a positive trajectory on Tuesday after remaining close for 3 consecutive days. The BSE Sensex reclaimed 50000 levels and Nifty hitting levels of over 14850 as buying across the board and index rebalancing led to a surge in benchmark indices.

The Sensex gained 1128 points and Nifty also gained 337 points.  The top gainers on the Nifty are UPL, JSW Steel, Shree Cement, TATA Steel and Wipro while the top losers are Hindalco Axis Bank , M&M and Bharti Airtel.

Among the sectoral indices, the Nifty I.T. index was the top sectoral gainer, ending with gains of close to 3 percent. The Nifty Metal index followed suit, ending 2.8 percent higher, although marginally off the day's high.

Nifty FMCG and Nifty Pharma were the other indices that also witnessed gains of over 2 percent. The Nifty Bank underperformed as compared to the benchmark indices in today's session, ending 560 points or 1.7 percent higher at 33,875.

The Nifty Media and the Nifty Realty indices were the underperformers in today's session, ending a little changed.

Broader markets too witnessed gains but were modest as compared to those seen in the benchmark indices. The Nifty Midcap index rose 1.7 percent while the Smallcap index gained 1.3 percent at the close of trade.
