On Wednesday, India's equity indexes rose for the second day in a row, boosted by robust buying demand in financial and automobile stocks. The 30-share BSE Sensex gained 1,223 points, or 2.29 percent, to close at 54,647, while the NSE Nifty gained 332 points, or 2.07 percent to close at 16,345.

Mid- and small-cap stocks ended the day on a high note, with the Nifty Midcap 100 index rising 2.16 percent and small-cap stocks up 2.38 percent. Aviation sectoral stocks also increased as the Center lifted pandemic-related restrictions on foreign flights.

The National Stock Exchange's 15 sector indices all finished the day in the green. Nifty Financial Services and Nifty Auto both beat the index, climbing 2.85 percent and 2.04 percent, respectively, to outperform the index. Nifty Media also increased by up to 4.05 percent. Nifty Metal, on the other hand, fell 0.34 percent.  Asian Paints was the highest Nifty gainer, rising 6.12 percent to Rs 2,890. Among the gainers are Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, and Mahindra and Mahindra.
