SEOUL: A South Korean military official said on Wednesday that North Korea test-fired two cruise missiles toward the Yellow Sea as President Yoon Suk-yeol held a press conference to mark the 100th day since taking office.
The official made the statement without providing any additional information, such as the precise type of missiles or the time of the firing. "The military has detected two cruise missiles launched by North Korea from Onchon, South Pyongan Province, into the Yellow Sea early this morning," the official said.
It was reported that South Korean and US intelligence agencies are undertaking a related analysis while the allies maintain a steadfast readiness posture.
Yoon outlined the specifics of his "audacious proposal" intended to aid the North in strengthening its economy in the event that it takes measures toward disarmament in his Liberation Day speech two days ago.
The North's first known cruise missile launch since January also occurred the day before the start of South Korean and American armed forces' annual combined Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) exercise.
Despite the fact that the North is forbidden by United Security Council resolutions from conducting launches utilising ballistic missile technologies, shooting a cruise missile in this manner does not go against those resolutions.
