Quetta:  In an attempt to target a paramilitary convoy, a suicide bomber struck in southwest Pakistan on Saturday, killing at least one police officer and injuring five others, according to an official.

Following the explosion in the city of Turbat in the southwest, authorities discovered the remains of a female bomber, according to top administrative officer Bashir Ahmed.

Later, the attack's perpetrator was identified as separatist Baluch Liberation Army spokesman Jeeyand Baloch.

According to Ahmed, the bomber intended to attack a Frontier Corps paramilitary convoy, but the primary target of the blast was a police car. A female police officer was among the injured, according to him, and a Frontier Corps vehicle had minor damage.

A low-level insurgency by Baluch separatists operating under the aegis of the Baluchistan Nationalist Army has been taking place in the province of Southwest Baluchistan.
