September 2023 Sees 10% Surge in GST Collection: State-wise Records

In a significant economic development, the Gross GST collections for September 2023 surged to a record-breaking Rs 1,62,712 crore, marking a substantial 10% growth compared to the previous year. This remarkable collection stands as the highest monthly GST revenue ever recorded.

The Union Ministry of Finance disclosed, "The gross GST revenue for September 2023 amounted to Rs.1,62,712 crore, comprising CGST at Rs.29,818 crore, SGST at Rs.37,657 crore, IGST at Rs.83,623 crore (inclusive of Rs.41,145 crore from import of goods), and cess at Rs.11,613 crore (including Rs.881 crore from import of goods)."

This achievement signifies that the central government has surpassed the 1.60 lakh crore GST mark for the fourth time within the fiscal year 2023-24. The fiscal year, on average, witnessed a monthly gross GST collection of Rs 1.65 lakh crore, reflecting an impressive 11% year-on-year growth.

Furthermore, the Union Finance Ministry confirmed that the central government had disbursed Rs 33,736 crore to CGST and Rs 27,578 crore to SGST from IGST.

Total GST Revenue of Centre and States

Post the customary settlement, the total revenue for the Centre and States for September 2023 stands at Rs 63,555 crore for CGST and Rs 65,235 crore for SGST. This remarkable revenue performance represents a remarkable 10% increase in GST revenue compared to the same month in the previous year.

During this month, revenues from domestic transactions, including import of services, exhibited a robust 14% growth compared to the corresponding month last year. This marks the fourth occasion when the gross GST collection has soared beyond the Rs.1.60 lakh crore milestone in FY 2023-24.

State-wise Growth of GST Revenues in September 2023

Here is a breakdown of the state-wise growth in GST revenues during September 2023:

Jammu and Kashmir: 32% growth, from Rs.428 crore to Rs.563 crore.

Himachal Pradesh: 10% growth, from Rs.712 crore to Rs.784 crore.

Punjab: 9% growth, from Rs.1,710 crore to Rs.1,866 crore.

Chandigarh: 6% growth, from Rs.206 crore to Rs.219 crore.

Uttarakhand: 7% growth, from Rs.1,300 crore to Rs.1,392 crore.

Haryana: 8% growth, from Rs.7,403 crore to Rs.8,009 crore.

Delhi: 2% growth, from Rs.4,741 crore to Rs.4,849 crore.

Rajasthan: 17% growth, from Rs.3,307 crore to Rs.3,869 crore.

Uttar Pradesh: 12% growth, from Rs.7,004 crore to Rs.7,844 crore.

Bihar: A slight decrease of 5%, from Rs.1,466 crore to Rs.1,397 crore.

Sikkim: 11% growth, from Rs.285 crore to Rs.315 crore.

Arunachal Pradesh: 27% growth, from Rs.64 crore to Rs.81 crore.

Nagaland: 5% growth, from Rs.49 crore to Rs.52 crore.

Manipur: 47% growth, from Rs.38 crore to Rs.56 crore.

Mizoram: 14% growth, from Rs.24 crore to Rs.27 crore.

Tripura: 13% growth, from Rs.65 crore to Rs.73 crore.

Meghalaya: 2% growth, from Rs.161 crore to Rs.165 crore.

Assam: 2% growth, from Rs.1,157 crore to Rs.1,175 crore.

West Bengal: 3% growth, from Rs.4,804 crore to Rs.4,940 crore.

Jharkhand: 7% growth, from Rs.2,463 crore to Rs.2,623 crore.

Odisha: 13% growth, from Rs.3,765 crore to Rs.4,249 crore.

Chhattisgarh: 18% growth, from Rs.2,269 crore to Rs.2,684 crore.

Madhya Pradesh: 15% growth, from Rs.2,711 crore to Rs.3,118 crore.

Gujarat: 12% growth, from Rs.9,020 crore to Rs.10,129 crore.

Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu: 12% growth, from Rs.312 crore to Rs.350 crore.

Maharashtra: 17% growth, from Rs.21,403 crore to Rs.25,137 crore.

Karnataka: 20% growth, from Rs.9,760 crore to Rs.11,693 crore.

Goa: 16% growth, from Rs.429 crore to Rs.497 crore.

Lakshadweep: A decline of 45%, from Rs.3 crore to Rs.2 crore.

Kerala: 12% growth, from Rs.2,246 crore to Rs.2,505 crore.

Tamil Nadu: 21% growth, from Rs.8,637 crore to Rs.10,481 crore.

Puducherry: 5% growth, from Rs.188 crore to Rs.197 crore.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands: A decrease of 30%, from Rs.33 crore to Rs.23 crore.

Telangana: 33% growth, from Rs.3,915 crore to Rs.5,226 crore.

Andhra Pradesh: 17% growth, from Rs.3,132 crore to Rs.3,658 crore.

Ladakh: A substantial 81% growth, from Rs.19 crore to Rs.35 crore.

Other Territory: 2% growth, from Rs.202 crore to Rs.207 crore.

Center Jurisdiction: 8% growth, from Rs.182 crore to Rs.196 crore.

Grand Total: The combined GST collection for September 2023 reached Rs.1,20,686 crore, reflecting an impressive 14% growth compared to the same month in the previous year.
