Belgrade: According to Serbian media, Serbian scientists have named a new species of beetle after tennis legend Novak Djokovic because of its speed, strength, flexibility, durability, and capacity to survive in hostile environments.

The insect was found several years ago in an underground pit in western Serbia. It is a member of the Duvalius genus of ground beetles, which are common in Europe.

According to researcher Nikola Vesovic, who was quoted by the Tanjug news agency, it is called Duvalius Dokovici.

Vesovic said a new species of Coleoptera beetle is a specialised underground predator with no eyes that lives deep underground.

Vesovic suggested naming the new species after Djokovic." "He is the man who gave a lot to this nation. We are compelled to repay him however we can.

Following his seventh Wimbledon victory in July, the 35-year-old Djokovic, who has 21 Grand Slam titles to his name, won the Tel Aviv Open last weekend to claim his third championship of the year.

The fourth-ranked Russian Daniil Medvedev is also in the last eight of the Astana Open, where he was competing on Friday against Karen Khachanov. Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, lost in the opening round.
