Serena Williams is named in women's tennis with great humor. This American player, playing 967 tour level single matches, has lost to the opponent of 100 or more rank only four times. Such an opportunity has never come in the last eight, but now it seems that the edge of the 23-time Grand Slam winning player is getting blunted with age. Serena, the ninth ranked player, lost to Shelby Rogers of 116 rank.

Williams, who returned from the 'Top Seed Open' after a break of six months, suffered a 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) defeat in the quarter-finals. The tournament, which started Monday near Lexington, is being viewed as a preparation for the US Open, starting on August 31. This is the first WTA tournament in the US since March to be played without an audience.

On Thursday, Serena entered the next round, beating the elder sister Venus Williams 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round. Victoria Azarenka, Sloane Stephens and rising star Coco Gough are also playing in the tournament. This was her first tournament since representing the US in the Fed Cup in February. Serena has been suffering from blood clots and lung problems, due to which she has to be more alert about corona. Serena Williams is a veteran player of the women's tennis team.
