Brussels: According to the federal prosecutor's office, seven people were detained in Belgium on Wednesday as a result of two investigations into "possible terrorist attacks." The seven, who included a Turk, a Bulgarian, and five Belgians, were accused of taking part in terrorist activities.
According to the prosecutor, five of them were also accused of "preparation of a terrorist offence." The federal prosecutor's office reported on Tuesday that raids were carried out late Monday on residences in the Belgian capital Brussels, the port city of Antwerp, and the border town of Eupen.
In the raids, eight people were detained, but one of the suspects detained in Antwerp was later released. Both of these investigations were conducted by investigating magistrates in Antwerp and Brussels, respectively.
