On 23 June 2013, under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, the team won the Champions Trophy by defeating England in the final. Dhoni became the first captain in the world to win all three major ICC titles (T20 World Cup, 50 Over World Cup and Champions Trophy). After this, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who showed amazing in the entire Champions Trophy, made the English batsmen live and the guest team could score 46/4 in 9 overs. After this, Ravi Bopara (30) and Eoin Morgan (33) shared a 64-run partnership in the Indian camp.

Dhoni became the first captain in the world to win all three ICC tournaments (2007 T20 World, 2011 World Cup, 2013 Champions Trophy) and reached number one in the Test rankings.
