Dehradun: On Monday Several tourists from Delhi have reportedly gotten "trapped" in their hotels in Uttarakhand following heavy snowfall in Chakrata of Dehradun district in the state. As per source report  four tourists from Delhi took to social media, requesting the administration to rescue them from their hotel at Lokhandi where they had been stuck for the last eight days.

The trapped tourists, which include three men and one woman, posted a video on social media, narrating their ordeal. The trapped woman reportedly said in the video, "We are trapped here. We appeal to the authorities and CM to please provide help. There is shortage of food and water in this hotel. There is no electricity also.”

Following their appeal, on Tuesday the authorities pressed into action snow cutter machines and JCBs in order to remove the snow from the area, Senior police officials told that they were trying their best to bring back the trapped tourists from Lokhandi Hotel in the Chakrata hills.

, Deepshikha Rawat, while Giving details of the situation disaster management officer of Dehradun, had said on Monday, "I have spoken to the tourists and they are safe at the hotels. There is heavy snow on the approach road as a result of which they are not able to leave." However, she added that vehicular traffic was expected to resume by Tuesday.

Meanwhile, on Monday a fresh spell of snowfall resulted in the reconstruction work at Uttarkhand's Kedarpuri getting suspended for the next 10 days, a senior official told news agency PTI. The reconstruction work at the famed temple, which suffered damages during the flash floods of 2013, has been closely monitored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rudraprayag District Magistrate Mangesh Ghildiyal told the news agency on Monday that heavy snowfall at the Himalayan shrine since the last few days had caused an accumulation of nearly 7 to 8 thick layer of snow at the shrine.
