Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has issued stringent guidelines for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra aimed at maintaining law and order during the annual pilgrimage.

In a recent review meeting held in Meerut with officials from neighbouring states including Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan, key decisions were made to enhance security and safety measures for Kanwariyas. Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and DGP Prashant Kumar led discussions focused on route planning, traffic management, and security protocols.

Effective July 22, the government has prohibited Kanwariyas from carrying spears, tridents, or any weapons during the yatra. This decision underscores the government's commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure pilgrimage experience for devotees. Additionally, stringent monitoring of those carrying the tricolour flag will be enforced to prevent any untoward incidents.

Special attention has been given to setting up camps along the yatra route, providing essential amenities such as rest areas, food, and medical facilities, with specific provisions for the comfort and safety of women participants. While there will be no ban on DJs, sound limits will be strictly enforced to maintain tranquility and safety.

To bolster security measures, CCTV surveillance and drone monitoring will be extensively utilized throughout the yatra. Steps such as covering electric poles and transformers are being implemented to prevent accidents, especially involving Kanwar structures and electrical hazards.

In furtherance of maintaining a conducive environment for the pilgrimage, liquor and meat shops along the yatra route will remain closed. The yatra route has been segmented into five zones with robust communication mechanisms via dedicated WhatsApp groups among officials at various levels.

The Uttar Pradesh government has urged officials from neighbouring states to issue identification to Kanwariyas, enhancing coordination through eight dedicated control rooms set up in UP and Uttarakhand. Enhanced security arrangements at the borders of Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan will include the deployment of bomb disposal squads and intelligence teams.

To ensure smooth traffic flow, heavy vehicles will be prohibited on major routes such as the Delhi Expressway, Dehradun Expressway, and Chaudhary Charan Singh Kanwar Marg from midnight on July 21. These proactive measures by the Yogi government underscore its commitment to upholding law and order while facilitating a safe and spiritually fulfilling Kanwar Yatra for all participants.
