Severe storm kills 8 people, 592 villages affected in Assam

Assam: A strong storm followed by lightning strikes rocked Assam on Saturday, killing at least eight people, including two ninors, according to an official bulletin.

The 'Bordoisila,' as such summer storms and rains are known, has lashed numerous districts of Assam since Thursday, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). It left a trail of destruction, including destroyed houses, uprooted trees, and snapped electric lines, in addition to human casualties.

According to the ASDMA report, four people were killed , including a 12-year-old in Dibrugarh on Friday owing to a huge storm, which was updated till 8 p.m. on April 15.  On Thursday, three more people were killed by the storm in Barpeta district, while a 15-year-old boy was killed by lightning in Goalpara district, according to the ASDMA.

In the last several days, the storm uprooted dozens of trees and dozens of electric poles, as well as damaged many homes in various locations, according to ASDMA's report. During the last two days, at least 7,378 homes and other businesses have been damaged across the state, according to the report.
