West Bengal's famous former commissioner of stranded Kolkata Saradha chit fund scam Rajiv Kumar did not appear in the Calcutta High Court. CBI told the court that Rajiv Kumar did not appear before the investigating agency in connection with the investigation into the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam. The counsel for the investigating agency argued before Justice Madhumati Mitra that Kumar cited several reasons for postponing the date of his appearance before the investigating agency.

Rajiv Kumar is currently the Additional Director General of West Bengal CID. Rajiv Kumar moved the High Court seeking cancellation of a CBI notice asking him to appear before the investigating agency to help probe the Saradha chit fund scam. YJ Dastur, counsel for the investigating agency, denied the former commissioner's claim that the investigating agency was specifically targeting him for questioning. Dastur argued that several other officials have also been questioned in this regard.

However, after hearing both the sides, Justice Mitra adjourned the court proceedings for today. In May 2014, the Supreme Court handed over the investigation of several chit fund scams including the Sudipta Sen-led Sarada Group. Investors were siphoned of Rs 2500 crore through these scams. Kumar was the Bidhannagar Police Commissioner in 2013 when the scam was exposed. Let me tell you that this scandal created tremendous political upheaval in West Bengal. CM Mamata Banerjee had confronted the Center over the arrest of Rajiv Kumar.
