In the Saradha chit fund scam case, CBI has demanded the Supreme Court to be questioned in the arrest and custody of former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. The CBI says that Rajiv Kumar is not helping in the investigation. He was granted bail by the Kolkata High Court on 1 October last year. 14 months after Rajiv Kumar received anticipatory bail from the High Court, the CBI has filed an application seeking cancellation of bail and permission for interrogation in custody.

In the petition filed in the Supreme Court on Saturday evening, the CBI said, while granting bail, the High Court had made it clear that Rajiv Kumar would assist in the investigation. He is aware of the disappearance of evidence in connection with the investigation, so his arrest and interrogation are necessary. Former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is considered close to CM Mamata Banerjee.

In 2014, the Supreme Court, along with other chit fund cases, submitted an investigation into the Saradha scam case to the CBI. Earlier, Rajiv Kumar was an important member of the SIT formed by the West Bengal government to investigate the scam. This happened on 1 October last year when the High Court granted bail to Rajiv Kumar when the CBI immediately approached the Supreme Court. Thereafter, on November 29, a notice was issued to Rajiv Kumar. But the case was pending after that.
