A clever criminal and sharpshooter allegedly involved in the attack on Bollywood director Rakesh Roshan in the year 2000 has been taken into custody in Thane city of Maharashtra about three months after he did not return to jail even after completion of the parole period. A senior officer said on Saturday that Sunil Gaikwad was apprehended in the Parsik Circle area of Kalwa at 9 pm on Friday night. Inspector of Central Crime Unit Anil Horao said that "We had received information that Gaikwad is coming to the Parsik Circle area. We laid the net and caught him".
He said that 11 cases of murder and seven cases of attempted murder have been registered against the offender. One of the cases is the attempted murder case of Bollywood director Rakesh Roshan in 2000. Police said Roshan was shot outside his Santa Cruz office in Mumbai in January 2000. The attackers had fired six bullets, two of which hit him.
The officer said that Gaikwad was sentenced to life imprisonment in the case of Murder and was locked in the Nasik Central Jail. He came out on 28-day parole on June 26 this year. He said that he had to return to jail after completion of the parole period. He did not return. He was taken into custody last night. He was absconding till then. The officer said that the offender was active in 1999 and 2000 and was involved in several offenses.
