NEW DELHI: In preparation for submitting his nomination papers, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor reached the party's headquarters in the city on Wednesday to check the list of delegates. Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan, is the other prospective contender, and he also landed in Delhi.
In the event of a contest, Tharoor is viewed as a likely contender from the G-23 group to take on the supporters.
Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan, reached to Delhi on Wednesday and is expected to meet Sonia Gandhi, the interim leader of the Congress. He is then anticipated to accompany Rahul Gandhi on the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Gehlot said, "All parties must adhere to the democratic process if they want a stronger Congress. The party's elections are open to all members of Congress." Gehlot spoke to Rajasthan party MLAs on Tuesday night and made a suggestion that he might run for the position of party leader.
On Tuesday, K.C. Venugopal had a call from Sonia Gandhi in Delhi, where they discussed in-depth the issues in Rajasthan as Gehlot pushed for Rahul Gandhi to become the party's leader.
As per the source information, Gehlot is hesitant to go to Delhi and does not want Sachin Pilot, his former deputy, to be appointed chief minister.
Following his discussion with Sonia Gandhi, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said that Rahul Gandhi would have one week to decide whether or not to run for office. Venugopal said, "I came to meet her since I had some party work that was still unfinished.
Since every party member wants Rahul to be the party president, he claimed that it is the right of the party workers to pass resolutions in the state.
