NEW DELHI: Shashi Tharoor met Sonia Gandhi on Monday at her home in ahead of the Congress presidential election process, which is set to begin on Thursday, September 22.

Though he has previously hinted at it, Tharoor remained silent when asked about running for president. He is one of the G-23 leaders who pushed for party reform. He tweeted a note on Monday saying, "I welcome this petition that is being distributed by a group of young members of @INCIndia, requesting constructive reforms in the Party. So far, it has received more than 650 signatures. I'm glad to support it and go above and beyond it.

"Appeal to Candidates for the President of All India Congress Committee," reads the memo. "We are members of the Congress party who want to make the party stronger so that it better reflects the aspirations of our country. We are making a request of the contenders for the next Congress party presidential election. On May 15, 2022, the Udaipur Nav Sankalp Declaration was approved by the Congress Working Committee. In order to make room for newer people, the Declaration includes clauses such as "ideology," "social justice," "organisational reforms that are 50% below 50," "one person one post," "one family one ticket," and others. And Economic Doctrine: Create a fair, just, and equitable economy to end extreme poverty and bring prosperity to all facets of society. "We appeal to each candidate for the position of President of the All India Congress Committee to take a public pledge to involve party members from block committees up to the CWC and implement the Udaipur Declaration in its entirety within the first 100 days of taking office," the memo said.

Shashi Tharoor was one of the 5 members of parliament, who wrote to the party's Central Election Authority about making the delegate's list public prompting Madhusudan Mistry to clarify.
