New Delhi: Concerned about the "transparency and fairness" of the party chief's election, five Congress MPs have written to Madhusudan Mistry, the head of the AICC central election authority, requesting that the electoral college's delegate list be made available to all voters and possible candidates.

Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari, Karti Chidambaram, Pradyut Bordoloi, and Abdul Khaleque, all Lok Sabha members of the Congress, stated in a joint letter to Mistry dated September 6 that this list must be made public in order to confirm who is qualified to nominate a candidate and who is qualified to vote.

The letter said that the CEA (Central Election Authority) "must put in place a mechanism to securely share this information with all electors and potential candidates in case the CEA (Central Election Authority) has any concerns with respect to the release of the electoral rolls publicly."

The MPs stated in their email to Mistry that voters and candidates cannot be expected to visit all 28 Pradesh Congress Committees (PCCs) and nine union territory units nationwide to check the electoral rolls.
As members of Congress, they claimed to be worried about the impartiality and transparency of the selection process for the party's president.

"It is regrettable that our request for the release of electoral rolls is being interpreted incorrectly. We do not advocate for the release of any party internal documents in a way that could allow those who wish us harm to exploit the information they contain "MPs stated.
They stated that they firmly believe that a list of PCC delegates who make up the electoral college must be provided by the party's CEA prior to the start of the nomination process.
The MPs claimed that by making the list available, any unjustified arbitraryness in the electoral process would be eliminated. "Our worry about openness, a sine qua non in any free and fair election, will be fulfilled as long as this condition is met," the letter stated. The letter was sent out on Thursday, one day after the party's ambitious "Bharat Jodo Yatra" from Kanyakumari to Kashmir had begun.

Rahul Gandhi said at a news conference on Friday in Kanyakumari that he has decided whether or not to run for the party leadership but did not go into further detail. If he decides not to run for the position in the future elections, he said he will explain why.

When sources asked if he intended to become the Congress party's leader, he responded, "Whether I become leader or not, this will become quite evident when the Congress party's presidential elections take place." "Await that moment. You'll see when that moment arrives. You can ask me "why didn't you stand" if I don't, and I will respond on your behalf "Gandhi told journalists. According to sources, Tharoor and Bordoloi had earlier requested the disclosure of the election records in their own letters to Mistry.

In 2020, a group of 23 leaders, including Tharoor and Tewari, wrote to Congress President Sonia Gandhi requesting a restructuring of the organisation. Tharoor is thinking about running for party president.

To ensure transparency, Tewari, Chidambaram, and Tharoor urged that the electoral rolls be made public last month.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) website must reveal the list of electors in order to ensure a "free and fair" election process, according to Tewari, who objected to the Congress for withholding the names of the electors from the public.

However, Mistry has insisted that the election is being conducted in a transparent manner and that the voting process as a whole is free and fair. The electoral rolls, he had said, could not be made public in accordance with the party's constitution, but they may be given to anyone running for office.

The process for submitting nominations will take place from September 24 to September 30. The notification for the election of the Congress president will be released on September 22.
The deadline for withdrawing nominations is October 8 and, if necessary, the election will take place on October 17. On October 19, the outcomes will be released.
