Banks refuse to collect coins deposited in donation box of Shirdi Sai Baba temple

Ahmednagar: Banks have refused to collect the coins deposited in the donation box of Sai Baba Temple at Shirdi in the district. Banks say that they do not have a place to keep these coins. At present, Sai Baba Institute has 1.5 crore rupee coins which are to be deposited in banks. The sanction of the banks is awaited.

In a bid to tackle the problem, Deepak Munglikar, CEO of Sai Baba Institute Trust, has written to RBI and nationalised banks urging them to suggest a solution to the problem. Every day lakhs of devotees from all over the country and abroad visit Shirdi and visit Sai Baba's Samadhi. Sai Baba Temple also receives a lot of donations, making Sai Baba Temple the second place in the country after Tirupati Balaji.

Devotees give both notes and coins in the form of donations. Every week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, the amount that comes in the donation box is counted. This amount is in turn deposited in 8 nationalized banks. Every week, a donation of about four to five crore rupees comes to the temple, which contains coins ranging from seven to ten lakh.
