BHOPAL: Just one day after Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan ordered to suspend Jhabua district Superintendent of Police (SP) for allegedly using abusive words against a polytechnic student over a phone call, the collector of Jhabua was also transferred on Tuesday.

Transfer order issued by the state administration on today,  Somesh Mishra, an IAS officer from the 2013 batch who served as the Jhabua district collector, was reportedly transferred to Bhopal to serve as the Madhya Pradesh government's Under Secretary.

Mishra will be replaced as the new collector of the tribal-dominated Jhabua district by Rajni Singh, an IAS official from the 2013 batch who was previously assigned as the Upper Commissioner (Revenue) in the Indore division. The development happened a day after Chouhan visited Jhabua and heard multiple concerns from locals about the slow execution of government initiatives.

Notably, the transfer order has been issued under the direction of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Arvind Tiwari, the Superintendent of Police for Jhabua, was on Monday first sent to the Bhopal police headquarters and then suspended by the evening. He was demoted, source said, for reportedly abusing a polytechnic student in the area while speaking on the phone.

The suspension of SP and subsequent removal of the district collector have drawn criticism from the opposition Congress. Due to the fact that both officials are from the higher caste (Brahmin), Congress referred to the development as being politically motivated.

K.K. Mishra, the Madhya Pradesh Congress' media coordinator, described the incident as "Top BJP officials from two factions are at odds with one another. Jyotiraditya Scindia, a minister for the union, directed the appointment of these officials."
