Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has thanked the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh Ranjan Gogoi for taking cognizance of the rising cases of rape and murder of girls in Madhya Pradesh by the Supreme Court. Shivraj Singh described it as a welcome step. He has written that in Madhya Pradesh, there is a provision for capital punishment for rape and murder of girls up to 12 years and 27 such convicts have been sentenced to death so far.

Shivraj Singh has further stated that even after the sentencing, the High Court, the Supreme Court and the President could not be hanged because of the lengthy process of the pardon petition. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has written that the fear that these criminals should have is not being created. To prevent such offences, it is necessary to ensure that such cases are heard expeditiously in the High Court and the Supreme Court and these cases are disposed of within a time frame.
