Mumbai: A fresh debate on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has sparked after three divorce bills were passed in Parliament. On the one hand, some Muslim leaders appear to be raising the issue. Owaisi had questioned whether a Hindu man was sentenced to one year while a Muslim was sentenced to three years. In a backlash, former Union Minister Arif Mohammed Khan instructed Owaisi, "If he talks about equality, why should he not ask the government to implement family laws for every citizen of the country?" He supports the Uniform Civil Code."

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, a BJP ally, has now come out with a statement on the Uniform Civil Code. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said, "Controlling and balancing the population has been the permanent role of the Shiv Sena. It has been the role of the Shiv Sena since Balasaheb Thackeray's time. The triple talaq law brought by the Modi government is a part of keeping the population under control," he said.

"It is a step towards the Uniform Civil Code," Sanjay Raut added, adding, "The issues raised by the Shiv Sena in the NDA are being taken forward by the Modi government. There is no need to debate it more, it is a decision of the country's interest."
