Islamabad: Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has earned a lot of name for his international cricket. The biggest reason for this is his fast bowling. With his skill, he made a lot of headlines. On 27 April 2002, he bowled at a speed of 100.04 mph (161 kmph) at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

He became the only bowler in the world to reach 100 miles speed. He threw the ball to New Zealand batsman Craig McMillan. But the ICC refused to make this record official due to technical reasons. Shoaib Akhtar's record of 100.4 mph was rejected by the ICC, stating that this speed was measured by an instrument which is not considered correct according to the ICC standard.

Although Shoaib was disappointed with this but he did not give up, he continued to bowl fast and finally he became successful one day. Akhtar had bowled against England during the World Cup 2003 at a speed of 100.2 mph (161.3 kmph), which he did at the Newlands ground in Cape Town. No one has broken the record of his fastest ball till date.
