Islamabad: Former Pakistan cricket team fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has recalled a telephonic conversation with Swar Kokila Lata Mangeshkar during his visit to Mumbai. The last rites of the Bharat Ratna awardee singer were performed with full state honours at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Sunday evening. Lata Mangeshkar is counted among the great playback singers.

Lata Mangeshkar was awarded several awards including Bharat Ratna, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, National Film Awards. The news of Lata Mangeshkar's death on February 6 has left the entire country in a state of shock. Several famous actors had arrived at the funeral to pay homage to Lata Didi, one of the most respected women in the country. Shoaib Akhtar, now known as Rawalpindi Express, revealed his conversation with Lata Mangeshkar and explained how he came so close to meeting Lata Ji. 

Akhtar expressed regret for not being able to meet him even after being in Mumbai in 2016 and revealed a phone conversation where the fast bowler was asked by Lata Mangeshkar to call him 'Mother' Shoaib Akhtar said on his YouTube channel, "I went to India in 2016 in connection with some work. I am also a huge fan of Lata Ji. Since I was in Mumbai, we could talk on the phone. He spoke to me with great love. Akhtar recently took part in the first edition of Legends League Cricket (LLC).''

Akhtar told that 'When I addressed her as 'Lata Ji,' she asked me to call her 'mother.' I inquired about her health, her whereabouts and everything in between. After which she told me, 'Son, I am really looking forward to meeting you. I have seen many cricket matches between you and Sachin. I like cricket a lot. You are a very aggressive player and are also known for your temper, but at the same time you seem to have a clean heart. Never change, always be like this.'
