Hollywood: In Hollywood, Florida, gunfire broke out along a beachside promenade on Memorial Day evening, leaving nine people injured as people frantically ran for cover.
A children's hospital received a number of the injured, according to police spokesperson Deanna Bettineschi.

Six adults and three children were among the nine injured, according to Yanet Obarrio Sanchez, a representative for Memorial Healthcare System. She stated that all of the victims were in stable condition.

Five adults between the ages of 25 and 65 were also hit, according to Bettineschi, along with four children between the ages of 1 and 17. She said that while the others were stable, one was undergoing surgery late Monday. If a 17-year-old was treated as an adult by the hospital was not immediately clear.

According to Bettineschi, the shooting took place just before 7 o'clock. Shots were fired after a fight broke out and at least one gun was drawn. Police had at least one person in custody, but they were still looking for additional suspects.

Numerous police officers, some of whom were present, responded as thousands of people, including some who were nearby, according to police chief Chris O'Brien.
It's unfortunate that law-abiding people visit our beaches and that experience is ruined by some criminals, he said.

The shooting took place close to a convenience store, a Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop and a Subway sandwich shop on the Hollywood Oceanfront Broadwalk.

Alvie Carlton Scott III claimed to have been on the beach when numerous gunshots were suddenly heard. He claimed that after a police officer ordered everyone to run, he hid behind a tree and left the area.

A number of young men were fighting in front of the shops, according to Jamie Ward, who was also on the broadwalk, when one of them pulled a gun and started shooting.
On Monday night, videos were shared on Twitter that showed emergency medical personnel responding and helping numerous injured people.

As the investigation continues, there will be a significant police presence, according to the police. Additionally, officials created a location for family reunions.
Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy issued a statement saying, "Thank you to the good samaritans, paramedics, police, and emergency room doctors and nurses for their immediate response to aid the victims of today's shooting."
