NEW DELHI: Every player wants to protect his career and Shreyas Iyer is one of them, he says, "Being inside the team" is not the right position to lose a player's morale in the long run. The youngest captain (24 years) of the IPL, Iyer brought his team to the Play-Off for the first time in seven years. He is gearing up for the next limited-overs series to be held in the West Indies. He has joined the national team for the second time.
He wants some more opportunities to help him enduring his place in the team. "If you are the best-talented player, you need some opportunities to prove yourself and adapt to the circumstances," Iyer said in an interview to a news agency. "If you keep getting out of the team, it's not right for the player's confidence and you start rampaging your own talent," Shreyas said.
If you are a talented player, you need some time. Shreyas Iyer has played six ODIs and an equal number of T20 internationals. Iyer, who has consistently performed at home and A level, said that sometimes you lose restraint but the only mantra is to perform well. Asked if you were constantly ignored, Shreyas said, "Yes, you start losing patience, but the selection is not in your hands."
You can only perform, perform and perform and that's what I enjoy doing. "You have to keep on performing and show people that you deserve to play at a high level," Iyer said. Once you do this, your career becomes more and more manageable.
