Young Indian Batsman Shreyas Iyer is looking to break into the national team. He has been one of the most consistent players in the domestic matches for the past year. Since getting dropped from the Indian team after the South African tour, Iyer has amassed a bucket load of runs in the domestic tournaments. Iyer has been not been picked by the selectors since February 2018. Even in his six ODIs for India so far, Iyer averages above 40 with knocks of 88 and 65 being the highlights. But selectors have continued to ignore him. Iyer also feels that he hasn’t got enough chances by the selectors to showcase his talents.

Shreyas told the Times of India, “Yeah, I felt that way. If there was some other player in place of me, he would have also felt disappointed. Your eventual goal is to play for your country. I was disappointed when I was dropped and didn’t get fair enough chances,” He further added, “But when you look at the TV and see your team winning, it gives a lot of satisfaction. That is more important.”

Even though he wasn’t picked for the ODI series in Australia and the tour of New Zealand, Iyer is still confident that he might be picked by the selectors for the World Cup. He said, “I back myself at any number. I am just waiting for my chance,” he said. “I am doing really well in every tournament. I am enjoying my cricket and not thinking about the selection process. Selection is not in my hands. My job is to perform and I’m doing that. Anything can happen, you can get a random call from the selectors that you’ve been selected for the World Cup.”
