New Delhi: India has strongly condemned the hoisting of a Sikh religious flag on the roof of Gurudwara Thala Sahib in the Chamkani area of Afghanistan's eastern Paktia province. Tell you that the conflict between militants and Afghan security forces has been at its peak in recent times in the province. According to reports, the Sikh religious flag 'Nishan Sahib' was removed from the Thala Sahib Gurudwara, a holy place.

Tell you that Thala Sahib has an emotional attachment to Sikhs and followers of Guru Nanak Dev all over the world. It is believed that Guru Nanak Dev visited this place. Official sources told the media, 'We condemn this act and reiterate India's firm belief that Afghanistan's future should be one where the interests of all sections of Afghan society, including minorities and women, are protected.'

In fact, there are fears about the future of minorities in Afghanistan in the event of the return of the Taliban, the terror group. However, the Taliban has termed reports of the removal of the Sikh religious flag as baseless. Suhail Shaheen, a Taliban spokesman for the international media, said, 'Sikh and Hindu communities have been living in Pakhtia for centuries. We are committed to their rights and they can live their normal life like any Afghan.'
