Once again, Sikh politics in Haryana has warmed up. The issue of separate Shiromani Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee for Haryana has again emerged. Sikh politics has come to a boil after Punjab's Captain Amarinder Singh government supported a separate Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGPC) in Haryana. The tenure of the committee has been completed, but the state government has not shown any special interest in starting afresh election process for HSGPC.

After getting the support of the Congress government of Punjab, the Sikhs of Haryana have started pressing for the formation of HSGPC. The leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal have also become active for HSGPC. The round of meetings has started in SAD. The BJP government of Haryana is also not willing to take it lightly. SGPC elections are conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The SGPC has already sent a letter to the Center for the election.

The Punjab government has filed an affidavit in the case of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee in the Supreme Court, saying that as per the prevailing situation of Haryana there is a need for a separate Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee. At present, 52 Gurudwaras come under the jurisdiction of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee in Haryana. These include seven gurdwaras of historical importance. The annual budget of these gurdwaras is in crores of rupees. In Haryana, 11 members are elected from eight SGPC seats including Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Sirsa, Hisar, Jind, Dabwali and Karnal. Currently, the number of Keshadhari Sikhs in Haryana is estimated to be around 45 lakhs and the number of SGPC voters is around 16 lakhs. Now the Sikhs of Haryana are demanding that the elections of SGG, as well as HSGPC, be conducted in their state.
