Washington: A 19-year-old Sikh youth was the victim of an assault while wearing a turban on a bus in New York. The incident occurred on Sunday during a shuttle bus ride in Queens, as reported by CBS News. According to the report, the assailant approached the young Sikh and demanded that he remove his turban, asserting that such headwear wasn't worn in their country. He told the victim, "We don't wear that in this country, and take that mask off!"

The attacker proceeded to punch the Sikh in the face, causing minor cuts, and attempted to remove his turban. The police have described the suspect as a male between 25-35 years of age, with a dark complexion, slim build, standing approximately 5'9" tall, with brown eyes and black hair. The New York Police Department announced that its hate crime unit is investigating the incident, according to NBC New York TV channel.

This incident follows a tragic event in Chicago, where a 6-year-old boy lost his life after being fatally stabbed by his 71-year-old landlord due to their Muslim faith. Authorities linked this attack to the ongoing violence in Israel and Gaza. The young boy sustained 26 stab wounds from a large military-style knife, as revealed by the autopsy, while his mother, Hanaan Shahin, aged 32, miraculously survived multiple stab wounds. Please note that hate crimes and violent incidents targeting individuals based on their religious beliefs are deeply concerning and require thorough investigation and legal action to ensure justice.
