Gangtok: Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad on Thursday took additional charge as the Governor of Manipur. He took oath as the Manipur Governor during the swearing-in ceremony held at Raj Bhawan, Imphal. An official press release informs that Prasad was administrated the oath of office by Manipur Chief Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar at Darbar Hall, Raj Bhawan, Imphal. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, ministers and senior officials of Manipur government were present on the occasion.

Speaking to media after taking oath, Prasad said Manipur is a beautiful State and he considers him fortunate to serve the people of Manipur. Manipur government is doing a good job in Covid management, he said and requested all citizens to contribute in the fight against the pandemic. The Governor extended his heartfelt congratulations to Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, the daughter of Manipur, for winning the silver medal in Tokyo Olympics.  He added that the Prime Minister has put lot of stress for development of North Eastern States as these States hold big potential for development, the release mentions.

Ganga Prasad Chaurasia was a member of the Bihar Legislative Council and the Leader of the Opposition during the RJD rule. He also held the post of leader of the Bihar Legislative Council during the NDA rule in Bihar. He was associated with Jana Sangh and remained associated with the same ideology till date. He is an ardent follower of Arya Samaj and served as the head of the Bihar Arya Samaj Pratinidhi Sabha unit. He is known as 'Ganga Babu' in the political field.
