New Delhi: Following the Election Commission's recent assessment tour of the five states heading into elections viz.Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram. Emerging reports indicate that the electoral body is contemplating scheduling elections for these states from November to mid-December. The vote count is projected to transpire between December 10 and 15.

Chhattisgarh is likely to witness a two-phase election, while the remaining states namely Rajasthan, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Mizoram, are expected to undergo a single-phase voting process.

Official Announcement from EC Imminent

Insiders divulge that the Election Commission is currently in the process of finalizing the election timetable for these five states, and an official announcement is anticipated shortly. Top Election Commission officials are currently engaged in discussions with observers from the five states preparing for the polls. Additionally, the Election Commission is deliberating a strategy to curtail the distribution of electoral incentives by candidates during their election campaigns.

Supreme Court Takes Notice of Centre, Madhya Pradesh & Rajasthan Governments

On Friday, the Supreme Court issued notices to the Centre, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh governments in response to a petition filed by Bhattulal Jain. Represented by his legal counsel, Jain contends that there is nothing more egregious than the disbursement of cash and freebies before elections—a practice that allegedly occurs before every election cycle.

EC Vigilant Against Financial Influence and Freebie Dissemination During Elections

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar affirmed the Election Commission's unwavering commitment to ensuring free, impartial, transparent, and coercion-free elections in the nation. Kumar made these assertions during a media briefing after concluding an assessment of poll readiness in Telangana on Thursday. A 17-member delegation led by the CEC had visited Hyderabad to gauge Telangana's preparedness for the polls. Kumar emphasized that Telangana has a total of 3.17 crore voters, with an equal distribution between men and women. In his briefing, Kumar also urged increased voter participation in urban areas.
