A police complaint was lodged by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on Thursday against e-commerce giant Amazon over the online sale of Nirmalya prasad of Lord Jagannath. In the complaint lodged at Singhadwara police station here, SJTA Administrator (Development) Ajay Kumar Jena alleged that Nirmalya is being sold online by Amazon without permission from the temple administration.
Rituals administrator Jeetendra Kumar Sahu said as per the temple record of rights, only the ‘Suaras’ (temple cooks) are authorised to sell the ‘Nirmalya Mahaprasad’ at the Aruna Stambha of the shrine. But the Mahaprasad was available on Amazon for Rs 129. “We are consulting legal experts to prevent recurrence of such acts in future,” he said.
Over the same matter this is the third police complaint filed in the matter. On Wednesday, the Suar Mahasuar Nijog had filed an FIR at the police station. Earlier, temple servitor Sambhunath Khuntia had also filed a complaint against Amazon India. In a related development, Puri Zilla Yuva Adhivakta Sangha convenor Anil Kumar Sahu on Thursday sent a legal notice to Global Senior VP and Country Head, Amazon India, Amit Agarwal over the issue. The notice demands a reply within 20 days.
