Kyiv: In the second attack on the capital in as many days, Ukrainian officials said early on Thursday that nearly 15 drones were shot down during an overnight attack on Kyiv.

Sergiy Popko, head of the Kyiv city military administration, claimed that air defence forces "detected and destroyed almost 15 air targets" without identifying the attacker. According to preliminary reports, there were no injuries or damage, he said.

According to Popko, the attackers launched a barrage of Shahed drones over a three-hour period. Since invading its neighbour in February 2022, Russia has attacked Ukraine several times using Shaheds made in Iran.

The military administration of the city had earlier issued a warning for air attacks and advised citizens to seek shelter.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Kyiv has received 820 air alerts, according to Popko.

A day after another "massive" overnight attack on the Ukrainian capital, the strike was thwarted, according to Popko.

On Wednesday, more than ten Shahed drones were shot down over Kyiv, and the debris hit a number of populated areas, including the busy Solomyansky neighbourhood, which houses an international airport.

Also on Wednesday, grain storage facilities in the port of Izmail, which is located directly across the Danube River from Romania, were attacked by Russian drones, causing damage to silos, warehouses, and office buildings.

Izmail is now the primary export route for agricultural products from Ukraine via Romania as a result of Russia's withdrawal from the Black Sea grain agreement last month.
