Smita Patil needs no introduction. She was one of the Brilliant actresses of her time. She had given some major performances in her career. The actress was known as the feminist of 90s. The actress remained in news for her personal as well as professional life. 

The actress started her career when she was 16 years old, she started working in Doordarshan as a news reader. She used to go to office wearing jeans, but during news reading, she used to wear saree over the jeans. While working in Doordarshan, she met famous producer-director Shyam Benegal. Shyam Benegal recognized her talent and offered her a role in his film 'Charan Das Chor'. In the 80s, Smita ventured into commercial cinema and played memorable roles in 'Namak Halaal' and 'Shakti' opposite the superstar of her time, Amitabh Bachchan. These films were superhit and their songs are still liked today.

At very early age Smita honored with various awards. In 1977, she appeared in a film named Bhumika. She was seen opposite Amol Palekar in Shyam Benegal's film. She was awarded the National Film Award for this film. In her film career of 10-12 years, Smita Patil was awarded National Film Award twice, Filmfare Award thrice. A year before her death, she was also given the Padma Shri award.

The actress's personal life was very tragic. The reason for this was her relationship with Raj Babbar.  Raj Babbar had left his wife Nadira Babbar and married Smita. At that she was termed as Home Breaker. The women's organizations also targeted the actress. Many women had raised the question that why there is such a huge difference between their ideals and their personal life practices. Many people sympathized with Nadira and strongly criticized Smita for this.

 Smita Patil realized her death very early. Author Bhavna Somaya wrote that- Smita was lost in old memories. She recalled his first meeting with Raj Babbar and the moments she spent with her sisters- Anita and Manya. Smita's health suddenly started deteriorating. The doctor said it is a slight fever but she realized that she will not live more. Raj Babbar came back from an event in the evening. She saw Smita's face turn pale. After Blood vomiting, She went into a coma. She died on 13 December 1986.  Smita died of childbirth complications at the age of 31, just two weeks after giving birth to Prateik.
