Srinagar: The temperature has improved slightly in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. However, the cold wave continues in both the Union Territories before Christmas. The Met department has predicted light snowfall or rain at various places on Christmas Eve.
"The night temperature has increased somewhat due to the partial cloudiness," an official in the department said. Tomorrow, on Christmas, rain or snowfall is expected in both the Union Territories." The 40-day bones-shaking period, which began on December 21, is currently under "Chillai Kalan", which will continue till January 31. Srinagar recorded a temperature of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. In Pahalgam, the temperature is minus 5.2 and Gulmarg minus 5.6 degrees.
Leh in Ladakh recorded minus 16.3, Kargil minus 17.2 and DRAs at minus 23.1. Dras is one of the coldest places in the world. Earlier on January 9, 1995, the temperature was recorded at minus 60 degrees in Dras. In Jammu city, a temperature of 6.6 degrees Celsius was recorded, Mata Vaishno Devi's base camp town Katra at 6.7, Batote 2.7, Benihal at minus 0.2 and Bhadrawah minus 0.1 degrees Celsius.
