Today National Panchayati Raj Day is being celebrated all over the country. Only the central or state government cannot run the entire country. Administration has also been arranged at the local level. This system has been named Panchayati Raj. Panchayati Raj consists of Gram Sabha at the village level, Mandal Parishad at the block level and Zila Parishad at the district level. Members are elected to these institutions who handle the reins of governance at the grassroots level.

Form of Panchayati Raj:- Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi used to say that if the villages of the country are in trouble then India will be in trouble. He dreamed of strong and sturdy villages which would be the backbone of India. He gave the concept of Gram Swaraj. He had said that Panchayats should have all the rights. To fulfill Gandhiji's dream, the 73rd constitution was amended in 1992 and the concept of Panchayati Raj Institution was introduced. With the help of this law, more and more powers were given to the local bodies. He was given the power and responsibilities of economic development and social justice.

How Panchayati Raj works?: In the early days, the Sarpanch was the most respected person in the village. Everyone listened to him. That is, the Sarpanch had all the rights at the village level. But now elections are held at village, block and district level and representatives are elected. There is reservation for SC/ST and women in Panchayat. Various types of powers have been given to Panchayati Raj Institutions so that they can function in an efficient manner.

National Panchayati Raj Day:- On 24 April 1993, 73rd amendment was made in the constitution. Since then that day is celebrated as National Panchayati Raj Day.
