Mogadishu: The Somali army has killed eight militants of al-Shabab in a fierce encounter in the southern region of Somalia. An official has given information about this. The news agency Xinhua quoted a statement made by the governor of Goof-Gadud Bura to Hasan Mayo Issac as saying that "terrorists attacked a military base in Goof Gadud Bura on Monday."

Isaac said, "The al-Shabaab militants tried to capture the military base, but they were defeated. Our army killed eight of their men in the encounter and we are now chasing the remaining terrorists." He said, "Our troops have complete control over the city and all the terrorists were chased out." The latest incident was carried out on the very next day of a car bomb blast in Galkayo town in the middle of Mudug in Somalia. Five people were killed in the bomb blast and six people were injured.

Al-Shabaab, an ally of terrorist organization Al Qaeda, claimed victory in Monday's attack, saying that eight Somali army personnel were killed in the encounter. There have been numerous encounters between government forces and al-Shabaab militants in Somalia's southern and central regions after the Somali army and the African Union Army drove al-Shabaab from the capital Mogadishu in August 2011.
