Sonam was last seen in  Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga along with her father Anil Kapoor. The film  was well received by critics as well as the audience. Sonam’s husband also loved the film very much. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Sonam revealed, "Honestly, he loved the film and cried. He loves watching my films and also loves other Bollywood films a lot, especially Andaz Apna Apna (1994). And he is the most supportive and amazing husband. But now he says, 'You have to do a comedy, don't make me cry again.'

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga tells the story of Sweety Chaudhary, a closeted lesbian, and her attempts to come out to her religious and traditional Punjabi family. It stars Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Sonam Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, and features Akshay Oberoi, Regina Cassandra, Brijendra Kala and Madhumalti Kapoor in supporting roles.

On the work front, Sonam will next be seen in The Zoya Factor, along with Malayali superstar, Dulquer Salmaan. The Zoya Factor is a film adaptation of a novel by Anuja Chauhan with the same title.
