New Delhi: Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi raised the issue of MGNREGA in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, on which Union ministers Giriraj Singh and Anurag Thakur retaliated. Sonia Gandhi, Lok Sabha MP from Rae Bareli, said that MNREGA, which was ridiculed by many, helped crores of people at the right time in the crisis of Corona, lockdown. It played a meaningful role in the defence of the government. But despite this, the budget of MGNREGA is being continuously cut, due to which the legal guarantee of getting work and payment of wages on time is weakening.

The Congress chief further said that this year the budget of MNREGA is 35 percent less than that of 2020, while unemployment is increasing continuously. Sonia Gandhi said that on March 26, all other states showed a negative balance under the scheme, in which about five thousand crores of workers are due. Sonia Gandhi further said that there should be no compromise on the social audit of the Gram Sabha. Putting 4 demands in front of the government, Sonia Gandhi said that a proper budget should be given for MNREGA, wages should be paid within 15 days of work, compensation should be made for delay in payment of wages, without the annual action plans of the states. to be determined without delay.

As soon as Sonia finished her talk, Union Minister Giriraj Singh stood up. He said that the things that Sonia Gandhi said are beyond facts. While presenting the figures, Giriraj said that in 2013-14 (Congress tenure) there was only 33 thousand crore budget, which was increased to one lakh crore, one lakh 12 thousand crore. Anurag Thakur stood up immediately after Giriraj Singh. He said that the budget which was fixed till 2013-14 was not even used. But the Modi government gave more than one lakh crore rupees in a single year. He said that only corruption cases used to come during the tenure of Congress.
