New Delhi: Interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi paid floral tributes to the country's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru at Shantivan today. Rahul Gandhi also paid homage to the former PM. He tweeted, "What we need is the generation of peace- Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.'' Today, the country remembers the first PM of India who gave utmost importance to truth, unity and peace. Jawaharlal Nehru's birth anniversary is celebrated as Children's Day all over India.
The Congress party also paid homage to the country's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru. The party tweeted on its Twitter handle, "Pandit Nehru Ji set an example of true nationalism through every word, every act, every sacrifice. He showed an unwavering dedication to the unity of our country, for the diversity of our country, for the prosperity of our country.'' PM Narendra Modi also paid homage to the country's first PM on his 132nd birth anniversary. PM Modi tweeted, "Tributes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Ji on his birth anniversary.''
With this, Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14th November, 1889 at Allahabad (now known as Prayagraj) to Motilal Nehru and Swarup Rani Nehru. He is one of India's most popular freedom fighters. He served the country as PM for 17 years. His tenure started from 15th August 1947 till 17th May 1964. Nehru wrote several popular books including The Discovery of India.
