New Delhi: Geeta Arora alias Sonu Panjaban, who has been sentenced to 24 years in a human trafficking and sex racket case from a court in Delhi, has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against her conviction. Sonu Punjaban and her partner Sandeep Bedwal, convicted in serious offences like kidnapping, rape, child trafficking and sex racket of a minor girl, were sentenced to 24 years of imprisonment by a Delhi court in July.

Sandeep was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment. Sonu Punjabban has been convicted in the first case. The court of Additional Sessions Judge Pritam Singh based in Dwarka had also fined Sonu Punjaban and Sandeep Rs 64 and 65 thousand respectively. The court said in its judgment that the plight of the girl in captivity of these accused was unbearable. This innocent girl was sold when she was in school. How many times has she been raped. Sonu Panjaban, being a woman herself, committed such crimes which would make you feel pity for the girl.

Sonu Punjaban had told the Additional Sessions Judge that she had a minor son, stating her family status. Her husband has been killed. The father has also died. The house has a mother and two brothers. One of her brothers has left home, while the other has AIDS. It is on her shoulders to take care of the whole family. On this, the court rejected the plea of Sonu Punjaban, saying that her acts were so abusive that words like the family don't suit her.
