Darshan was born to actors Thogudipa Srinivas and Meena on 16 February 1977. He debuted with 1966 Kannada film in which Srinivas acted and gained fame, after which speculation was stuck on his name. His father often played the role of villain in the Kannada cinema. Against his father's wishes, Darshan enrolled at Ninasam, a theater training institute in Shimoga, before his father's death in 1995. As a child, Darshan received his primary and secondary education in Mysuru, which was 5 lakh in the floods of North Karnataka.

Personal life: Darshan married his relative Vijayalakshmi, who was then a student in chemical engineering at Dharamshala Temple in 2003. He has a son Vinesh. He runs his mini zoo in the far east of Mysuru near Malavalli. Other passions of his are cars and bikes. He got involved in a dispute in September 2011, when his wife complained to the police accusing him of domestic violence. He was later arrested and spent 14 days in judicial custody at Parappana Agrahara. However, the marital discord was subsequently settled out of court. He issued a public apology to his fans for the controversy. Though it was expected to tarnish his image, his immediate release Sarathi did well at the box office. A fond animal lover, Darshan owns a private studio in his farmhouse in the far east of Mysuru city.
