New Delhi: Eminent space scientist and Padma Vibhushan awarded Roddam Narasimha died on Monday in a hospital in the Karnataka capital, Bengaluru. He was 87. Dr Sunil V Furtado, a neurosurgeon and senior consultant at Ramaiya Memorial Hospital in Bangalore, said that Narasimha, a scientist who served in the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IIS), breathed his last at around 8.30 pm.

PM Narendra Modi has condoled the death of the scientist. PM Modi said, "He was an outstanding scientist who was excited to exploit the power of science and innovation for the progress of India". Narasimha was admitted to the hospital on December 8 after a brain haemorrhage. Furtado said that when he was brought to the hospital, his condition was very critical. His brain was bleeding.

According to doctor Furtado, he was suffering from heart disease and had a stroke in 2018. In 2013, Narasimha was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honour of the country, for his significant contribution in the field of space science. He is survived by his wife and a daughter.
