Special trains are being introduced in Assam as well. Two more special trains will be operated by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) for the benefit of the people of the Northeast region from this week. One daily special train will start operating between Howrah-Guwahati-Howrah w.e.f October 5, 2020. Another weekly special train will start running between Silchar-Trivandrum-Silchar from October 8, 2020. “Introduction of these special trains will enable passengers from a vast part of Assam and Northeast to avail the facility of train travel to various parts of the country,” said the chief public relations officer (CPRO) of NFR, Subhanan Chanda in a statement.

Chanda further informed that 02345 Howrah-Guwahati special will leave from Howrah at 3:50 pm daily with effect from October 5, 2020, and reach Guwahati at 10:05 am next day. The statement said, "Passengers must download Aarogya Setu App, and strictly observe social distancing both at the station and on trains. Wearing of face covers at the entry and during travel is a must. Only asymptomatic passengers with confirmed tickets will be allowed to enter the Railway station/board the train.”

Meanwhile, NFR has chosen to continue the services of 3 pairs of DEMU services in Tripura following receipt of a letter in this regard from the state government. All regular passenger train services on Indian Railways including Premium trains, Mail/Express trains, Passenger trains services, narrow-gauge train services were suspended in the wake of COVID19 since the last week of March. In the NFR area presently 12 pairs of special trains are presently in operation.
