The annual recognition of 54 National Sports Federations, valid till 31 December 2019 by the Ministry of Sports, has been extended till 30 September 2020. The ministry has had to take this step due to the lockdown, which has led to sports federations like the Archery Association of India, Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) and the Rowing Federation losing annual recognition despite holding elections according to sports codes, while chess and horse riding The Sangh gained recognition in spite of disputes. The ministry will now once again start the process of giving annual recognition. This will open the way for the recognition of sports associations like archery, rowing, PCI.

In addition to the school games federation banned from the ministry, Taekwondo Union, Gymnastics Association is also not named. Cabinet Minister Arjun Munda has been elected President of Archery Association and Paralympic medalist Deepa Malik PCI.

The ministry has had to ignore these associations due to the lockdown. The ministry has also indicated changes in the list. Sources say that the official recognition of annual recognition to sports associations has not been made. The Ministry provides financial assistance to sports federations only after it is recognized.
