One of the most successful movies of the year  SS Rajmouli’s directorial  RRR  starring  Ram Charan and Jr NTR  received appreciation not only from India but also from the western audience.  Several prominent Hollywood writers and directors praised the filmmaker for his work in RRR. There are few people who are upset with the director for showing Britishers in a Bad Light.

RRR is set in the 1920s when India was under British rule. The film highlights the atrocities committed by the British during colonial times. The film stars Jr NTR as Komaram Bheem and Ram Charan as Alluri Sitaraman. In a recent interview, Rajamouli opens up on the claims that movie shows Britishers in Bad light.

 Rajmouli said, "At the beginning of the film you see the disclaimer card. Even if you miss it, it’s not a history lesson. It’s a story. The audience in general understands it. If a British is playing the villain, they understand that I am not saying all the Britishers are villains. If my heroes are Indians, they understand that all Indians are heroes."

The director further added, "In this film, a particular guy is a villain and a particular guy is a hero. They automatically understand. They may not be knowledgeable about everything but their emotional intelligence is very high. Once we understand that as a storyteller, we don’t have to worry about other peripheral things."

SS Rajamouli is currently attending screenings of RRR in the United States amid buzz that the film might earn a nomination at the Oscars. The film grossed ₹1,150–1,200 crore (US$150–160 million) worldwide, setting several box office records for an Indian film, including the third-highest-grossing Indian film. RRR is nominated in three categories at the 47th Saturn Awards including Best Action / Adventure Film, Best International Film, and Best Director.
