CHENNAI: MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, on Saturday, inaugurated the Kavundampalayam and Ramanathapuram-Sungam flyovers in Coimbatore from the Secretariat.
The two flyovers built at an estimated cost of Rs 230 crore and Rs 60 crore, respectively, will relieve traffic congestion on the Coimbatore-Tiruchirappalli Road.
In the presence of Highways Minister EV Velu, Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu, and state Highways Secretary Dheeraj Kumar, the Chief Minister virtually inaugurated the flyovers from the state secretariat in Coimbatore.
According to a press statement issued, the four-lane Ramanathapuram - Sungam flyover, which spans 3.15 kilometres, was officially inaugurated for public usage. This would relieve traffic congestion in Ramanathapuram, Olympus, and Sungam, besides Alvenia School, Sowripalayam, Puliyakulam, All India Radio Road, Race Course Road, and Valankulam Road intersections. The government hospital, railway station, town hall, and Ukkadam would all be accessible via this new flyover.
The public-owned, 1.17-kilometer-long four-lane flyover at Kavundampalayam would improve traffic flow for vehicles travelling to Coonoor, Ooty, Gudalur, and Mysuru.
