Hyderabad: With the non-commissioning of the second phase of the Hyderabad Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS), the people who had been hopeful, especially in the north-eastern part of the city, are now upset. Despite the completion of electrification work between Medchal-Secunderabad routes, MMTS train service has not started yet. The start of the second phase of MMTS, especially from Secunderabad towards Medchal, is much needed covering Malkajgiri, Alwal, Bolarum areas. As most of the roads in these areas come under the cantonment. And some roads are kept closed from time to time by the Cantonment Board which affects the traffic heavily.

There is no proper connectivity to the north and east side of the city; Only the best connectivity is rail transport. LT (long train) and MMTS Travelers Association said, “There is a long pending demand of MMTS Phase II passengers, but due to paucity of funds the project has been put on hold. Work on Phase II As part of this, railway officials electrified the tracks between the Bolarum, Malkajgiri and Medchal sections, but no electric trains run as of now.

Recently the authorities decided to run only one DEMU train between Manoharabad and Secunderabad, which is approximately 41 km. But the train stops at some stations. The fare for DEMU train is Rs 30, while the cost of MMTS train journey is Rs 5. It would be better if SCR starts MMTS Phase II services as soon as possible. "On condition of anonymity. A senior SCR official said, “Being a joint project of the Ministry of Railways and the Telangana government on cost-sharing basis (one-third by the SCR and two-third by the state government). Around Rs 450 crore is still pending. from the government for the project.
